A generic 13-step guideline
Building a business is very time-consuming and busy; I wouldn’t say it is hard once you have a core understanding of what you are doing and how you are doing it. As a 2x founder building a business will require preparation and dedication. Along with many other things we will be discussing later on. The process can be long and dated; however, the long-term effects or the creation will be everlasting.
These 13 time-tested steps on how to start a business — whether it’s your first or your 10th — will help you with everything from finding and validating your money-making idea to figuring out your shipping strategy to finally launching your product or service. Everyone has great ideas, but most people do not know how to get started. Here is what you can do:
1. Find your passion (idea creation)
Take some time to get to know yourself. What is your interest, things you love to do, and what do you see yourself doing in 5–10 years?
2. Do constructive research
Take time researching what is currently out there for your idea/ business. Analyze the current market and the impact of your potential business.
3. Understand your current skillset
This step is similar to step one. You will need to understand what you are good at; your skills. List it out to see what you can do, what you need, and what you need to do better.
4. Determine the problem or the solution you are representing
Determine the issue you are solving. Then, determine how your business/ product can help solve that problem.
5. Get to know your customers/ users-
Take some time researching, and most importantly talking, to your users to see their views and their experiences. This data will show how and when to connect with them.
6. Be involved in communities
You need to get involved in different communities to gather feedback, support, but importantly network with people. It gives you a home of connecting and sharing your plans with ideas and strategies.
7. Assess your budget/ finances
In this step, you will need to assess your current budget to determine what you need to prioritize in terms of spending/ investment.
8. Begin structuring your business plan
Once you gather enough information about the user, the problem, and determining how you can solve the problem. Then you can able to start drafting out your operational plans. There is a couple of references/ templates used to help draft your structure.
9. Find diverse team members with a similar passion
You will need to find people who will be part of the team and the mission. This will bring your quality team members rather than quantified employees.
10. Find an uplifting work environment
You will need to find a place where you can focus on the work without outside distraction. Getting to work with other people on the same grind level.
11. Plan out your user journey
Be in the shoes of your users using your product/ services. Get to understand the complication and benefits of using your product/ services. To determine what you need to enhance and what needs to change, etc.
12. Begin building and testing out your product/ services
Now you have an understanding of what you are trying to build. you can now begin prototyping and building out your product/ service(s).
Every business will be different in terms of scalability and business type. However, the getting started phase is pretty much the same process. Use these steps as a loose guideline on how to build your business from the start to everlasting.
